When my brother was born, my family brought him a lamb stuffed animal in the hospital. Unsurprisingly, my mother still has this. When I was born, they did the same. Mom still has this one too. For Emmett’s birth, I’m going to bring him the above. His name is Captain Lambface Von PuffyPants. And he has come to snuggle.

This is the first article of clothing I’ve bought for the boy. I feel the way a man dresses should portray a definitive sense of self, complete confidence in his person, knowledge in the fashion he’s wearing and why, and the clear purpose that they are in fact planning on being Batman.

At 5 and 1/2 months developed, he’s already wearing his first (…and last, if he knows what’s good for him) Bluetooth earpiece. Attempts to pair with my iPhone likely frustrate the tiny brain in his soft, maleable skull.
During this ultrasound we learned that Emmett would in fact be an Emmett, and not an Emma. The nurse’s tact in circling a still shot of his fetus penis and annotating “it’s a boy!” made that exceedingly clear.

This is little alien fetus Emmett, about 3 and 1/2 months formed. Only a couple inches long (“tall”?), it’s the first time he’s ever seen. The audio system in the examining room lets us hear his tiny heart beat very clearly, and it’s incredibly fast. The most surreal of moments.
